EVERYTHING TO HIM
"Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God"
-D&C 18:10
"Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me."
-Isaiah 49:15-16
The Story Behind the Song
I love the quote by Brigham Young that says, “When you … see our Father, you will see a being with whom you have long been acquainted, and he will receive you into his arms, and you will be ready to fall into his embrace and kiss him.”
I testify that our Father in Heaven knows each of us intimately and personally. He knows your name. He knows your strengths and your potential. He loves you for who you are now, and for who He knows you can become. I started this song for my daughter when she was just 4 years old, after I wrote the following in my journal: “She is a princess. Just ask her – she’ll be the first to tell you she is. Every day she loves to dress up in her glass slippers, “poofy” dress, gloves, and tiara. Whenever she dresses as a princess, she points to the picture of the temple on her wall and tells me that it is her Castle. Every night before bed I have to read her a princess bedtime story or she won’t go to sleep. I will freely admit that I encourage her belief that she is truly a princess. For one, she is my only girl, and my last baby, and spoiled beyond belief. But the real reason I love seeing her innocent belief that she is a princess is because I think that deep down inside her, she remembers who she really is: A daughter of a King, born to be a queen and a goddess someday. And watching her remember that, reminds me that I am too."
One day we were playing dress-ups and I told her I was going to be a witch. She said, “Mommy, you’re too beautiful to be a witch. Remember, you’re supposed to be a princess, like me.” I needed that reminder. I think sometimes we all do. When I was called as YW President, I finally finished the song. I wanted something to remind my beautiful young women how amazing they truly are, and how much our Heavenly Father loves them.
LYRICS
As a child, you recognized your worth,
You knew you were amazing.
Chosen for these latter days
Because of who you are.
Not afraid to let your spirit shine,
You knew you were divine.
Please don’t let the world take that away.
You are beautiful, you are strong.
There’s a place where you belong!
Don’t lose sight of the light that’s within.
You are a royal spirit daughter of Almighty God
And you are everything to Him.
But now sometimes you wonder
Who you really are.
Doubt and fear call loud and clear
Tearing you apart.
Though the world may think you’re nothing,
Please know the Lord looks on the heart.
And you are everything to Him.
You are beautiful, you are strong.
There’s a place where you belong!
Don’t lose sight of the light that’s within.
You are a royal spirit daughter of Almighty God
And you are everything to Him.
So believe in Him, have faith in Him,
Put your trust in Him, and rely on Him
Then your faith will grow,
And His love will show,
And you will come to know
You are beautiful, you are strong.
There’s a place where you belong!
You have a light burning bright from within.
You are a royal spirit daughter of Almighty God
And you are everything to Him.
