The Story Behind the Song
This simple arrangement was written for my 3 sons to play together on the piano, cello, and viola before my oldest left on his mission. These are 2 of my favorite primary songs of all time, and I love the way they fit together so perfectly. I later created a version that includes the lyrics, because the teachings in these simple songs are so profound and powerful.
Sister Susan H. Porter gave a talk in General Conference called "God's Love: The Most Joyous to the Soul," in which she taught:
"When you know and understand how completely you are loved as a child of God, it changes everything. It changes the way you feel about yourself when you make mistakes. It changes how you feel when difficult things happen. It changes your view of God’s commandments. It changes your view of others and of your capacity to make a difference. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland taught: “The first great commandment of all eternity is to love God with all of our heart, might, mind, and strength—that’s the first great commandment. But the first great truth of all eternity is that God loves us with all of His heart, might, mind, and strength.”
I know that I am a child of God, and as I reflect on that knowledge, I feel the love my Savior has for me. I have been blessed by this knowledge throughout my life and I have tried to lead, guide, and walk beside each of my children as they have come to know these truths for themselves.
